Lessons Learned from Pond-Perimeter Filter Trenches

The St. Anthony Falls Laboratory (SAFL) has a robust Stormwater Research Group whose objectives include developing new stormwater treatment technologies, providing guidance for assessment and maintenance of treatment practices, investigating groundwater impacts from stormwater infiltration, and improving models for runoff and treatment practices.

The group sends out periodic updates and newsletters to interested parties, and their August 2016 newsletter includes an interesting article about pond-perimeter filter trenches, which is a technique/design used at the edge of stormwater treatment ponds to facilitate sediment settling and filtration of nutrients and other pollutants. Read more!

Also be sure to enjoy a recent WCCO clip on retention ponds that features SAFL Faculty and Stormwater Research Group leader John Gulliver!
