Tyler Olsen receives 2017 Nels Nelson Fellowship

Tyler Olsen, Masters Candidate in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering and student at the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory, was awarded the 2017 Nels Nelson Memorial Fellowship during a special SAFL seminar on April 18th, 2017. The Nels Nelson Memorial Fellowship is awarded annually to a University of Minnesota student pursuing her/his Master’s degree in a water resources-related discipline at the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory. Special consideration is given to students involved in hydraulics, hydrology, sediment transport, water quality or surface water management.
PhD Candidate Mirko Musa awarded Heinz G. Stefan Fellowship

Mirko Musa. PhD Candidate in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo-Engineering and student at the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory, was awarded the Heinz G. Stefan Fellowship during a special SAFL seminar on March 28th, 2017. The Heinz G. Stefan Fellowship is given to a University of Minnesota student pursuing graduate studies in water resources engineering who is studying at the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory. Special consideration is given to students involved in environmental hydraulics.

2017 Alvin G. Anderson Award

This past Tuesday, February 28th, SAFL was pleased to award the Alvin G. Anderson award to two SAFL PhD Candidates: Anne Alhvers Wilkinson and Abigail Tomasek, both from the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo-Engineering at the University of Minnesota. The Alvin G. Anderson Award is awarded annually to University of Minnesota students pursuing graduate studies in water resources. Special consideration is given to students involved in the sediment transportation field, which was Dr. Anderson's specialty when a professor at the University of Minnesota from 1950 until 1975.

PhD candidate Mohammad Danesh-Yazdi successfully defended his dissertation in Civil, Environmental, and Geo-Engineering on February 2nd, 2017. He is advised by Professor Efi-Foufoula-Georgiou, formerly of the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory and currently professor at the University of California - Irvine. Congratulations, Dr. Danesh-Yazdi!

Maria Garcia-Serrana receives the Edward Silberman Award

Maria Garcia-Serrana, a Civil Engineering PhD student at the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory was awarded the Edward Silberman Award during a special SAFL seminar on November 15, 2016. The Silberman Award is awarded annually for outstanding research at SAFL. The fellowship award is paid for in honor of Edward Silberman by his family and friends to acknowledge his contribution to the lab. Maria received the award for her civil engineering research titled, "Roadside Drainage Ditches: First Generation Stormwater BMPs".
