TLI Receives Military's "Above and Beyond" Award for Honoring Extended Reserve Deployments

The Department of Defense, along with the Minnesota Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves (ESGR) has honored the Technological Leadership Institute (TLI) and its Director, Allison Hubel, with its prestigious "Above and Beyond" award.

Presented to only 30 businesses from hundreds of nominations received each year, the award honors companies that have allowed its employees to fulfill Guard and Reserve commitments which extend beyond the minimum required by the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act.

TLI's Director of Operations Travis Thul, a Coast Guard reserve officer, was recently deployed in support of both Operation Allies Refuge and Operation Vigilant Sentry.

"We're greatly honored to receive this prestigious award from the DOD and the Minnesota chapter of the ESGR," said Allison Hubel, director of TLI. "We've been very proud to support Travis Thul and the important work he's been doing as an officer in the Coast Guard Reserves."

The Above and Beyond award is an upgrade from a previous honor, the Patriotic Employer award, which had also been presented to Dr. Hubel and the Institute. The Above and Beyond award recognizes the ongoing sacrifice made by the insititute in allowing a key employee to serve their country during extended deployments.

Dan Thomsen of the ESGR presented the award at the McNamara Alumni Center on Wednesday, February 21.
