Anticipate, effectively manage and understand the challenges of the complex, highly regulated global medical device industry with a Master of Science in Medical Device Innovation (MDI). Launched in 2014, this degree program offers career-driven, technology-oriented professionals the tools and connections to master end-to-end medical device commercialization.
 
The MDI degree program takes students from idea to commercial success, gaining knowledge of global, industry, and regulatory trends needed for innovation and career growth. Through the practicum and applied capstone project, students identify real-world solutions to issues that directly impact organizations and communities.

Application Deadline

The priority deadline for admission and scholarship consideration is January 15, 2024. After January 15, 2024, TLI will continue to accept applications on a rolling basis. Those who submit their application and have all of their application materials in by the priority deadline of January 15 will receive a decision by March 1, 2024. Those who submit complete applications after the priority deadline will receive a decision within 6 weeks. The final date to apply to our programs is July 15, 2024. Those who require a visa to complete the program are encouraged to apply as early as possible, preferably by the priority date.

Technological Leadership Institute Merit-Based Scholarships

The Technological Leadership Institute has a limited number of merit-based scholarships. These scholarships range from $10,000-$20,000. These scholarships funds are distributed over the course of the two year program. TLI automatically considers applicants for these scholarships based on their program application. Therefore, no special application is required for these scholarships. We encourage candidates to submit their applications for admission by January 15, 2024 for priority consideration for these funds. Applications received after the priority deadline will still be considered for scholarships from TLI, however, those applications submitted by the priority deadline will be given first consideration. If an applicant receives a scholarship, they will be notified via their acceptance letter.

In order to get started, you will need to create an online application. This will be used to submit all required documentation to apply to any of TLI's three degree programs, which are part of the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis. Transform Technology

Build expertise in one or two areas of specialization while gaining a broad understanding of industry dynamics. Qualified applicants, including new graduates and industry professionals, can fulfill the following admissions requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Demonstrated leadership potential or experience

*Applicants not meeting these criteria may be considered on a case-by-case basis and are encouraged to provide additional information supporting the application.

The MDI degree program provides early and mid-career medical device professionals the skills needed to be effective leaders, and drive innovation and business growth. MDI is a one-of-a-kind program that can be completed while you work full time:

  • Cohort-based model with 25 students
  • Classes are scheduled 2-3 times a week in the evenings
  • Students take three to five classes a semester
  • Take classes in-person or remotely
  • Complete the program in 21 months
