Sustainability

Sustainability research in CEMS has overlap with the Energy, Human Health, and Materials themes. It includes the creation of bio-renewable feedstocks for the chemicals and materials industries (e.g., sustainable polymers), the design of energy efficient catalytic cycles, the development and preservation of clean water resources, and the efficient generation and use of renewable energy. The transformation of the chemical and materials industries away from combustion and petroleum derived feedstocks represents a gigantic challenge and a critical opportunity for chemical and materials engineers to impact the long term sustainability of our society.
