The Pribiag group's research applies innovative nanofabrication and low-temperature experimental techniques to explore the electronic properties of new low-dimensional material systems. Our work is driven both by the potential to uncover new fundamental properties to develop quantum devices with new physical properties that could enable future computing paradigms.

Our emphasis is on 2D and 1D materials that host novel quantum states or exhibit unusual spin and superconducting properties. Some of these materials are particularly promising for the development of future computing and communication technologies that will embrace the laws of quantum mechanics to overcome the limitations of what is possible within the existing (“classical”) paradigm.

A major focus of the group is the development of superconducting quantum devices and circuits for quantum information science. This includes work on gate-tunable transmon qubits, as well as the exploration of new superconducting device concepts such as multi-terminal Josephson junctions and superconducting diodes. These platforms provide new avenues for tunability, non-reciprocity, and functionality in quantum circuits, and may form the basis of future cryogenic electronics integrated with quantum processors.

Topological superconductivity is another example of quantum phase we are investigating. It is predicted to host Majorana zero-modes with exotic exchange properties. Because of their topological robustness, these states are of interest for fault-tolerant approaches to quantum information processing.

We are also investigating a potentially groundbreaking new approach to realize superconducting quantum states and device architectures using DNA-enabled nanoassembly.
 

Prof. Pribiag is also leading a multi-university collaborative team working on the Department of Energy Quantum Information Science project entitled , "Integrated Materials Platforms for Topological Quantum Computing Systems" and is part of the National Science Foundation project Global Quantum Leap.
