Sasli, Coughlin, and Bolin Selected for Roman Telescope Program

Congratulations to Argyro Sasli, Michael Coughlin, and Bryce Bolin (Eureka Scientific) on their selection to the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope Cycle 1 General Investigator Program. They are building a machine-learning pipeline that rescues near-Earth asteroid "streaks" from Roman Space Telescope images—signatures that the standard data-processing would otherwise throw away as cosmic-ray noise. Recovering these tracks lets Roman measure the positions, brightnesses, and compositions of hundreds to thousands of asteroids, making it a key planetary-defense partner to the Rubin Observatory and NEO Surveyor mission.
