31st ANNUAL Malmstrom lecture in physics; Cosmic Messengers from Cosmic Accelerators; Theories and mysteries of "cosmic ray" proton particles

Event: Kay Malmstrom Lecture in Physics
Organizers: Hamline University
Date and Time: Thursday, November 3, 2022, at 7 p.m.
Venue: Sundin Music Hall, Hamline University, 1531 Hewitt Avenue, Saint Paul, MN

Join Hamline University students, faculty, and physics enthusiasts for a talk by Ellen Gould Zweibel, William L. Kraushaar Professor of Astronomy and Physics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Dr. Zweibel will share the theories and mysteries of galactic “cosmic rays,” protons that travel at nearly the velocity of light. Through her research, we can speculate how such particles attain their energy, how they travel through space, and how they alter their environments—a great class of mysteries pondered since the 1700s and not fully understood today.
