Skillman named CSE Distinguished Professor
Professor Evan Skillman of the School has been named a College of Science and Engineering Distinguished Professor. These professorships were established to recognize distinguished faculty members within the College who have been judged to be exceptional through: unusual efforts in, and contributions to teaching; reputation in their scholarly fields; and genuine commitment to the College and its activities.
Prof. Skillman served as Director of Graduate Studies in Astronomy for ten years and seven years as Director of the Minnesota Institute for Astrophysics. Professor Skillman was credited with defining a unifying mission for the Institute, increasing its visibility, and vastly improving the working relationship between the Institute and the School as a whole. He is considered a world class leader and authority on the subject of dwarf galaxies. Among his outreach contributions to the School and the University as a whole is the “Universe in the Park” public outreach events (now Universe @ Home) which he launched in 2001.
The Professorship comes with a one-time allocation of $15,000 to be used for professional development in teaching and research.
