Robert and Lillian Pepin Undergraduate Research Awards for Physics
This scholarship was established by a gift from the estate of Robert and Lillian Pepin. Professor Pepin was a longtime faculty member in the School of Physics and Astronomy and also served for 20 years as the director of the Institute of Technology (now College of Science and Engineering) Honors Program. He was a pioneer in the use of mass spectrometry to study the composition of the entities of our solar system, such as planets, meteorites and comets. The scholarship is intended to support undergraduate physics majors (or intended majors) who are participating in (or intend to start) conducting research. The application should include a brief description of the proposed research and must be accompanied by a letter of support from a prospective faculty research advisor.
2026 Award Recipients
Mikaylah Hanson: "I am originally from White Bear Lake, Minnesota, USA. I am focused on experimental condensed matter physics, specifically in quantum materials and nanoscale superconducting devices. My current research uses DNA origami and nanofabrication techniques to study superconducting transport measurements."
Rebecca Meyer: "I am originally from Victoria, Minnesota. I do condensed matter research, studying the effects of annealing and plastic deformation on bulk STO and KTO crystals."
