About

Matt Hernick leads projects at SAFL that involve water, dirt, energy, or all three. Projects range from physical hydraulic modeling and culvert aquatic organism passage to stormwater treatment device testing. He has knowledge of hydraulics, waterways, soils, pumping systems, and civil infrastructure, allowing him to manage projects from conception to completion.

Matt especially enjoys designing and operating test setups to test and report quantitative data on commercial products, processes, and ideas that benefit human society and promote stewardship of the natural world. Although he likes wearing rubber boots, he often goes home with wet feet anyway.

Matt began working as a SAFL engineer in 2014, having been introduced to the lab as an undergraduate shop student and researcher. Prior to SAFL, he worked in water resources engineering at consulting engineering firms in Minnesota and New Hampshire.

When not working, Matt enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and children, and volunteering in his community.
