Technically Speaking: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Technology Leadership

Championing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) isn’t just a moral or social imperative. It is important for business success too. The technological sectors of the economy have traditionally been less diverse than others, and the negative consequences of that trend are all too evident.

In this panel discussion, hosted by the Technological Leadership Institute (TLI) at the University of Minnesota, leaders in DEI from different industries and functional backgrounds will share their perspectives on why DEI matters.

Topics discussed will include challenges and validated best practices for advancing each element of the DEI triad: improving the mix (diversity), making the mix work (inclusion), and achieving equal access and benefits for all (equity).

All of us can take actions to “be the change,” regardless of our role, to enhance DEI in our workplaces and communities. The panel will identify a number of such actions, with special attention to technology organizations.

Prior to the panel discussion, TLI will announce the inaugural awardee of its newly established Kirk Froggatt Diversity and Inclusion Fellowship, named in honor of the institute’s recently retired leadership instructor.

Moderator:
Roz Tsai, PhD - Vice President of Talent Management, Thrivent

Panelists:
Kelly Baker, Chief Human Resources Officer, Thrivent
Shari Rossow, Vice President of Talent Acquisition, Best Buy (retired)
Miguel Rocha, Diversity Talent Strategy Lead, 3M
Virajita Singh, Associate Vice Provost, Office for Equity and Diversity, University of Minnesota
