14th IRM Conference on Rock Magnetism
In-person and Virtual Meeting
University of Minnesota, Minneapolis - June 9-12, 2025

Join us on the beautiful University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus in the land of 11,842 lakes.
General Information
Rock Magnetism is a broad research field within Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences, with applications across a diverse range of disciplines, from understanding the deep Earth, plate tectonics, environmental and past climate changes, through to exploring processes on other planetary bodies and the history of the solar system. Since 1992, the Institute for Rock Magnetism (IRM) has hosted biennial, three-day conferences which have become a focal point for the global rock magnetic community to disseminate, explore, and innovate cutting-edge research on natural magnetic minerals, including oxides, hydroxides, and sulfides. These gatherings bridge fundamental physics and technological innovations with applications across Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences. Unlike larger conferences, these events are intentionally small and interactive, fostering in-depth discussions among participants.
Dates and Session Format
The 14th IRM Conference on Rock Magnetism will be held in-person at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, and virtually on Zoom, from June 9- 12 2025. The meeting will feature four 3 hour long oral sessions, two keynote speakers and a poster session. The oral sessions are by invitation and in-person only, but we welcome poster presentations from in-person conference participants on any topics in rock and paleomagnetism. The conference format is designed to be interactive and in-depth, allowing extended periods of open discussion following invited lead talks on selected topics.
Schedule and Oral Session Information
All the presenters, talk titles, and schedule can be found here.
Workshop on open access archiving of rock magnetic data and open source analysis (Thursday, June 12th)
The IRM team is developing a new rock magnetic software package called RockMagPy. If you would like to know more and attend please see the workshop page.
All questions about the meeting can be addressed to Maxwell Brown at [email protected]. We are looking forward to seeing many of you in-person and online.
