BME community members receive NSF Graduate Research Fellowships

May 20, 2021—Four members of the Department of Biomedical Engineering community have received 2021 fellowships through the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP).

2021 NSF Graduate Research Fellows

  • Evan Dastin-van Rijn, who will be starting our PhD program.
  • Kaylie Richard, who is advised by BME Prof. Casim Sarkar. Richard is a graduate student in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Minnesota.
  • Tate Shannon, who will be starting our PhD program and will be a trainee in our cardiovascular engineering training program.
  • Claire Zurn, a recent graduate of the Department of Biomedical Engineering’s undergraduate program, who is currently pursuing a graduate degree from Johns Hopkins University.

The NSF GRFP recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing full-time research-based master's and doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) or in STEM education. The GRFP provides three years of support for the graduate education of individuals who have demonstrated their potential for significant research achievements in STEM or STEM education.
