How to apply

Our current undergraduate students can apply to our integrated BBmE/MS degree program, which allows them to complete both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in five total years.

Prerequisites and admission criteria

  • Only current students in the Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate Program at the University of Minnesota are eligible to apply. Students from other programs or universities should view instructions on how to apply for our MS and PhD programs.

  • Students apply after the spring semester of their third year. At this time, you must have completed all sophomore- and junior-level BMEn coursework (BMEn 2101, 2401, 2501, 3011, 3015, 3111, 3115, 3211, 3215, 3311, 3315, 3411, 3415). Students who haven’t completed these 13 courses or their approved equivalents aren’t eligible to apply.

  • Admission will be based solely on the BMEn GPA (that is, the GPA of the 13 required BMEn courses listed above). Applicants with a BMEn GPA of 3.6 or higher are guaranteed admission. Applicants with a lower GPA will be considered on a space-available basis.
