BME postdoc wins best new investigator poster presentation award

April 17, 2025 — Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) postdoc Kara Peak recently won a "2025 Best New Investigator Poster Presentation Award" at the Society of Reproductive Investigation Annual Scientific Meeting. 

Peak presented her research in BME Professor Victor Barocas’ lab. She is currently in BME Assistant Professor Kyoko Yoshida’s lab.

The award is given to the top 20 posters presented at the annual meeting. A total of 295 poster presenters were eligible for this award.

Her poster is called, “Gestational diabetes increases mechanical properties at the microstructural scale within umbilical vasculature.”

The work she presented was in collaboration with Barocas; Yoshida; her mentee and BME undergraduate, Gajan Dileepan; and Sarah Wernimont, an Assistant Professor with the University of Minnesota Medical School.
