BME undergrad student receives Fulbright award

March 31, 2023 — Biomedical Engineering undergraduate student Ibrahim Irfanullah was honored with an award through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, which funds American citizens to study, conduct research, or teach English abroad.

Irfanullah is part of the lab of ​​Biomedical Engineering Professor David Odde. There, he studies cell proliferation and migration in prostate cancer cell lines.

With support through the Fulbright program, Irfanullah plans to go to Porto Alegre, Brazil this upcoming February for 9 months. There, he’ll work on a project aimed at applying techniques in machine learning and artificial intelligence to develop affordable and accessible technologies for hepatocellular carcinoma. His project will be supervised by Dr. Jose Debes, a gastroenterologist at the University of Minnesota.
