May 24, 2023 — Earlier this month, PhD candidate Efraín Torres — a first-generation American and college graduate — received the Student Entrepreneur of the Year award from the Gary S. Holmes Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Minnesota.
The award was granted at Founders Day 2023, a showcase of student entrepreneurship and innovation from across the University of Minnesota.
Last year, Torres and his co-founder Parker Jenkins, a BME PhD student, won the student division of Walleye Tank, a pitch competition hosted by the University of Minnesota Venture Center and the Mayo Clinic Office of Entrepreneurship, and were awarded an NSF commercialization grant.
