Erin Flathmann receives CSE Outstanding Service Award

March 3, 2025 — The College of Science and Engineering has awarded Erin Flathmann, the Department of Biomedical Engineering’s Finance Team Lead, a 2024 Outstanding Service Award in the civil service staff category.

The award is presented annually by the College of Science and Engineering to recognize exceptional performance, and recipients were honored at a special reception. Nominees were evaluated based on significant contributions to a project or unit, special service to the unit, college, and/or the University, and sustained excellent job performance.

Nomination letters praised Erin for being the financial backbone of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, noting that she’s worked closely with departmental leadership to understand current financial positions as well as do critical "what if" scenario planning for the future. Erin has been critical for individual faculty handling of accounts with trust that the spend rates are appropriate. Her rapport with faculty has been extremely notable and she is known as a chief “obstacle remover” for enabling the faculty to submit some of their most complicated grant proposals.

In addition, Erica Ratner (Department of Biomedical Engineering) and Taylor Lopez-Angel (Center for Neuroengineering) were nominated in the professional and administrative (P&A) and labor-represented categories, respectively.
