Kyoko Yoshida awarded AHA Career Development Award

April 20, 2023 — Department of Biomedical Engineering Assistant Professor Kyoko Yoshida has been awarded a 2023 Career Development Award from the American Heart Association (AHA).

The award supports highly promising healthcare and academic professionals who are in the early years of their first professional appointment, so they can explore innovative questions or pilot studies that will provide preliminary data and training necessary to assure their future success as a research scientist. Awardees receive $231,000 over three years.

Prof. Yoshida’s project aims to understand how hormonal and mechanical interactions drive cardiovascular adaptations during pregnancy. Specifically, Prof. Yoshida and team will develop and validate multiscale computational models of heart and vascular growth. In the future, they aim to apply these models to investigate pregnancy-associated cardiovascular conditions, such as preeclampsia and heart failure associated with pregnancy.
