Prof. Sachs: Data-driven science is the only way to beat COVID-19

May 8, 2020—In an opinion piece in The Hill, Professor Jonathan Sachs makes the case for sticking to the scientific process in the fight against COVID-19. He writes:

“To be sure, science is not foolproof, and it is sometimes a slow process, which feels frustrating for everyone during this dark time. But taking a data-driven and methodical approach ultimately is the fastest route to achieving success while maintaining safety.”

Prof. Sachs cites an open letter he wrote last month that calls for public policy based on objective, data-driven facts and predictions. It has since been signed by more than 6,000 scientists, engineers, doctors, health care professionals, and concerned citizens.
