Brenda Ogle named Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering
May 29, 2019 — Prof. Brenda Ogle was appointed by Dean Mos Kaveh as the new head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME), effective July 1, 2019. Brenda has been a BME faculty member since 2013, and prior to that, held faculty positions at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and at the Mayo Clinic. She currently also serves as the director of the University's Stem Cell Institute.
Brenda's research is in the areas of cardiac tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. In particular, she works to understand the mechanisms for stem cell differentiation guided by extracellular matrix proteins, to develop tools for analysis of stem cell behavior, and to deliver therapeutics to tissue using engineering principles. She is a fellow of the AIMBE, serves on the board of directors of BMES, and her recognitions include the 2016 Mullen-Spector-Truax Women's Leadership Award.
