Kevin Jiang awarded Interdisciplinary Doctoral Fellowship

March 1, 2023 — PhD student Kevin Jiang was awarded a 2023-24 Interdisciplinary Doctoral Fellowship, which supports outstanding University of Minnesota PhD students who are engaged in interdisciplinary research.

Jiang is studying the effect of paired acoustic and electrical stimulation on hearing with Prof. Hubert Lim. The stimulation has the possibility of improving the symptoms of hearing loss and tinnitus.

For the Interdisciplinary Doctoral Fellowship, Jiang is collaborating with Profs. Roni Evans and Cherie Kroh from the Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality and Healing to engage community members who experience hearing loss or tinnitus. They hope to better define their needs so that future technologies can best serve these communities.

The competitive award includes a $25,000 stipend, academic year tuition at the general graduate rate for up to 14 credits per semester, and subsidized health insurance through the Graduate Assistant Health Plan for up to one calendar year.
