Patrick Alford named an ASME Fellow

October 18, 2024 — BME Professor Patrick Alford was recently named a Fellow by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The ASME Committee of Past Presidents confers the Fellow grade of membership on worthy candidates to recognize their outstanding engineering achievements. Fewer than five percent of all ASME members are named Fellows.

Alford was recognized by ASME for his research focusing on biomechanics and mechanobiology. The Alford Lab employs computational models and microfabrication-based experimental approaches to tease out the relationship between mechanical forces and cellular functions. His team is especially interested in biomechanics problems associated with aneurysm formation and growth, cerebral vasospasm, morphogenesis, and neurotrauma.
