Research IOP Information for Faculty
The Internship Opportunities Program (IOP) offers valuable support to undergraduate students seeking research experience with CEGE faculty. Available during both the academic year and summer months, the IOP provides financial assistance to cover students' wages for their research activities. Due to limited availability, IOPs are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Each faculty member can sponsor only one IOP student per semester, and eligible students must be currently enrolled CEGE majors (or intending to enroll as a major). Michelle Anderson will send information about IOPs to the faculty near the beginning of each semester.
IOP Application
Faculty and student must discuss a research plan in advance of the student completing the application form.
Once the research plan is ready, faculty can share the application link with the student.
Fall & Spring IOPs
During the academic year, students enrolled in an IOP will receive a lump sum paid to their UMN student account, at the beginning of the semester. The department awards $2,250 ($15/hour x 10 hours per week x 15 weeks) to each student enrolled in an IOP during the academic year. (last updated June 2024).
Summer IOPs
During the summer, IOP students will be paid via payroll and so must log their hours. The department will provide $3,600 to students enrolled in an IOP for the summer. This requires a match of $3,600 from faculty research funds to support a student for the summer. Please note $7,200 is considered the "full time" salary amount for summer employment of students ($15/hour x 40 hours per week x 12 weeks). (last updated June 2024).
