Thomas Smith joins the department as Director of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) laboratory

Dr. Thomas Smith joined the Department of Chemistry in April as the new Director of the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) laboratory. As director of the NMR lab, which provides access to equipment and expertise for departmental research and teaching, Smith will be responsible for maintaining the lab and spectrometers, while also training users, collaborating on research projects, and running service samples.

Victor Munsch: Shipping, receiving, stockroom guru

Victor "Vic" Munsch is retiring after 41 years of outstanding service with the Department of Chemistry. He started working for the department on Sept. 4, 1979, just three days after his marriage to wife Rose. He worked for more than 28 years in shipping and receiving and more than 12 years managing the Chemistry Research Stockroom.

Joseph Franek: Chemical demonstration wizard

Joseph "Joe" Franek, the Department of Chemistry’s chemical demonstration director, is retiring after more than 26 years of service to the University of Minnesota, which includes four years on the Morris campus and 22 years on the Twin Cities campus. He started working for the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in July 1998.
