What should I do if I am interested in a chemistry major?
You apply for admission to the major mid-fall semester of sophomore year. We decide on those admissions after fall grades are posted. Applications for the chemistry major are accepted twice each academic year.

What requirements must I meet before applying?
You must complete these courses with a minimum grade of C-
- Chem 1061 or 1071 (or H) (lecture) and 1065 (lab)
- Chem 1066 (lab)
- Math 1271 or 1371 (Calculus I)
- Math 1272 or 1372 (Calculus II)
- Math 2263 or 2374 (Multivariable Calculus)
- Physics 1221 or 1301W
- Physics 1222 or 1302W
You must complete these courses with a minimum grade of C
- Chem 1062 or 1072 (or H) (lecture)
- Chem 2301 or 2331H (first organic chemistry lecture)
A minimum technical GPA of 3.2 guarantees admission to the major. If your technical GPA is below 3.2, you will be admitted on a space-available basis.
Whom should I talk to about my interest?
Make an appointment with our advising office as soon as possible, and meet with one of our faculty undergraduate advisers to develop a plan. A one-year plan must be filed prior to fall registration.
