I want to minor in chemistry, what do I do?

Chemistry minor application

Meet these requirements:

  • 15 semester hours of Chem 2301/2302/2311 (2 lectures & 1 lab of organic chemistry);
  • 5 additional credits of chemistry lab or lecture at 2xxx level or higher of which 3 credits must be at the 3xxx or higher (must be CHEM designator);
  • no credits from seminar or special topics courses may be applied toward the minor;
  • no more than 2 credits of Directed Study may apply, although more may be taken as an addition; and
  • at least 3 upper-division credits that satisfy requirements for the minor must be taken through the campus that will award the minor.

All courses must be taken for a grade and grades of C- or better are required in the minor program courses with an overall minor GPA of 2.00 or better.

Turn in the application to the advising office, 135 Smith Hall.

I want to minor in chemistry, and I’ve taken the life sciences track. What do I do?

Meet these requirements:

  • 10 credits: Chem 1082/1085 and Chem 2081/ 2085 (2 lectures & 2 labs);
  • 10 additional credits of chemistry lab and/or lecture at 2xxx level or higher;
  • no credits from seminar or special topics courses may be applied toward the minor;
  • no more than 2 credits of Directed Study may apply, although more may be taken as an addition; and
  • at least 5 credits (two courses) must be completed at the University of Minnesota.

All courses must be taken for a grade and grades of C- or better are required in the minor program courses with an overall minor GPA of 2.00 or better.
