Two students receive 2019-20 writing awards

Two students, Angela Cao and Kat Graf, have received Department of Chemistry's 2019-20 writing awards. The awards honor the most favorably reviewed directed research report and advanced lab report. The final reports were evaluated using a subset of department-approved criteria outlining expectations in effective scientific writing.

Angela was honored for her advanced lab report, "Synthesis and Characterization of (C5H5)Fe(CO)2I, [(C5H5)Fe(CO)2PPh3]+I and (C5H5)FeCO(PPh3)I by Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy,” in Chem 4711 taught by Professor Ian Tonks.

Kat was honored for her directed research report on “Optimization of Potassium Solid-Contact Ion-Selective Electrodes Made with Colloid Imprinted Mesoporous Carbon.” She was advised by Professor Andreas Stein.

The awards committee consisted of Professor Kyle Bantz, Professor William Pomerantz, Writing-Enhanced Curriculum (WEC) Research Assistant Jorden Johnson, and WEC Assistant Director Dan Emery, Ph.D.
