NSF-REU/Lando/CSP Program

Our Summer NSF-REU/Lando/CSP is for outstanding national and international undergraduate students. It is designed to encourage students in the chemical sciences to learn more about research in chemistry, and provide them with the opportunity to work in a lab under the direction of a faculty member. We offer a variety of professional and social events for participants throughout the summer.

Applications accepted from students in their sophomore or junior years of undergraduate study in chemistry or closely related fields. This is an international competition. The NSF-REU/Lando/CSP is open to all students outside the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities.

The status of the 2025 summer program will be contingent to COVID-19 restrictions, but an in-person program is expected.

"My LANDO experience did so much to help prepare me for graduate school. Because of my LANDO research, I knew what kind of research I wanted to do and what kind of group I wanted to join. I also had my first published paper because of the research I was part of during my LANDO experience. I cannot recommend it enough!" —Samuel Stoneburner, Ph.D.

We strive to promote a climate that celebrates our differences and strengthens our department by embracing and working to increase our diversity.

About the Summer NSF-REU/Lando/CSP Program

This program was initiated in 1973 with funds from a bequest to the University in honor of Maximillian Nandor Lando, a 1902 chemistry graduate of the University of Minnesota. It is presently supported by a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) grant of the National Science Foundation.

"The Lando Program was amazing, definitely one of the most wonderful experiences that I have ever had. The staff, faculty members, and graduate students at the University of Minnesota were friendly and very kind. As an international student, I can certainly say that what I enjoyed the most about this summer program was the amount of social events that provided the right environment to meet people and make friends from all around the world. Last, but not least, the Twin Cities is a great place. There is always something fun happening, and no way to get bored." —Andrey Joaqui, chemistry graduate student
