Math, Data Science, Statistics ...

Nearly all fields in the Earth sciences and environmental geosciences involve data (and in some cases big data), statistics, and other aspects of data analysis. Students in our majors programs learn how to apply math to document and understand Earth processes such as climate change, earthquakes, and groundwater and stream flow. Students also gain skills in using common programming methods and software (for example, Matlab, Python, R). Students with skills in math/data science and Earth/environmental sciences have many possible career paths, including in geo-technical industries and government agencies that focus on environmental issues, land use, and resources.
