GeoClub
Hello! We are the University of Minnesota Geological Society-- otherwise known as the "GeoClub". We are a student group that supports and advocates for students in the department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, although anyone with an interest in these subjects is welcome! The GeoClub lounge can be found in the basement atrium of Tate Hall, room B85-- it's a great place to meet ESCI undergrads and other rock nerds. Overall, we host a number of events throughout the school year, ranging from very casual and informal social hours to inviting industry professionals and preparing professional development workshops. Past activities have included:
"Bad science" movie nights
Bake sale/chili & soup completion fundraisers
Weekend camping trips
ESCI Career Fair
Hosting a undergraduate-chosen seminar? speaker
An annual spring trip to a geologic area of interest
We also have monthly general meetings during the school year, where upcoming events and topics within the department are discussed, and usually a few games are played! These general meetings change each semester, so times and locations tend to vary.
There is no formal membership list with the GeoClub, so there's no active requirement to be a member of the group; feel free to attend any events that you can.
If you're interested in our group, please email [email protected] with any questions, or to be added to the emailing list; the emailing list is used for departmental announcements, with information about internship, scholarship, academic, and industry opportunities, as well as weekly seminars that the department hosts.
