Leighton group research unveils the mechanism behind ultrahigh conductivity in new materials

Feb. 16, 2024 - Research published in the journal Nature Communications by the Leighton Group in CEMS provides the first full understanding of the mechanism behind the ultrahigh electrical conductivity of a class of materials called metallic delafossites.

Feb 13, 2023 - Assistant Professor Michelle Calabrese is among twelve recipients of the 2024-2026 McKnight Land-Grant Professorship. This University-wide program seeks to advance the careers of the most promising junior faculty members who have potential to make significant contributions to their departments and scholarly fields. Recipients were chosen based on merit, professional promise, quality of publication record, and originality and innovation in research achievements.

Collaborative research finds everyone wins at the swimming "Olympics" for bacteria

Dec. 21, 2023 - We have cheered on as taller swimmers, such as the great Michael Phelps, win medals at the Olympics. Turning to the microscopic world, a new collaborative work led by graduate students Shashank Kamdar and Dipanjan Ghosh from Prof. Xiang Cheng's group published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reports a surprising discovery: E. coli bacteria of different sizes swim at the same speed.
