The department hosted 16 high school teachers for a three-day Green and Sustainable Chemistry workshop. Now in its sixth year, the workshop has now served more than 100 high school instructors.
Energy and U eclipses 100,000 student milestone

It’s official: more than 100,000 students in the Twin Cities metro area have engaged with chemistry through the biannual Energy and U program. With the completion of the May 2023 series, the interactive show – which teaches third, fourth, and fifth graders about the First Law of Thermodynamics – surpassed this major education milestone.

Professors Frank Bates, David Blank, Marc Hillmyer, and Aaron Massari have each received a Lone Star Emmy Award for their respective production roles in University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley’s ‘Energía Y TÚ.’ The show, a Spanish adaptation of the University of Minnesota’s own Energy and U, won the award in the Informational/Instructional – Short Form or Long Form Content category.
Energy and U welcomes 5,000 metro-area K-12 students to campus for engaging educational shows

Energy and U returned to the University of Minnesota January 5th through 13th, inviting 5,068 elementary school students from across the metro area to campus to get excited about science and engineering through a hands-on educational show.
