Students honored for GPAs and outstanding teaching assistants
Honored for earning 4.0 GPAs were Cecilia Douma, Hannah Holst, Chenyu Liu, and Jiaxin Ning.
Honored as outstanding teaching assistants for 2018-19 were Harrison Frisk, Andrey Joaqui, and Emerson Uhlig. Below are some comments about each one of them.
“Harrison continually conducted class with a positive attitude and an approachable nature that gave Chem Lab a highly enjoyable and welcoming atmosphere. This was complimented by his constant encouragement and insistence that there was always more than one way to solve a problem. He was always conscious about safety but was never mean about it. His teaching style encouraged growth and responsibility from his students above all else. He is the gold standard for what I would like from my past and future TAs. Overall, Harrison Frisk is the type of person all TAs should aspire to be.”
“Andrey was a perfect TA in every regard. He was always on time and prepared, he did an excellent job of making sure everyone knew what was going on, he always knew how to solve whatever problems would arise during lab, and his availability outside of class was generous. He was always able to answer questions in a way we could understand and challenged us often to answer questions that we could answer ourselves. I speak for everyone, when I say that we absolutely love Andrey and are beyond thankful that we had the privilege of having him as our TA this semester.”
Emerson was a TA that both students and the genchem team could rely on. His students commented on how enthusiastic and passionate Emerson was about sharing his knowledge of chemistry, not only guiding the students to answer their own questions but also pushed them to really understand the chemistry concepts beyond what was expected. Additionally, he would always step up and volunteer to help when needed as well as was engaged in TA meetings and during lab.
