Richard Braun

Richard Braun (BCE 1948, MSCE 1955), former commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Transportation and a founder of the Center for Transportation Studies at the University of Minnesota, died peacefully on April 11 at the age of ninety one. Braun received his bachelor's degree (1948) and master's degree (1955) from the University of Minnesota in civil engineering. In a career that spanned more than 50 years, he became one of Minnesota's most important leaders in transportation policy. He served the public in a variety of positions, including Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Transportation. He was the founding Director of the University's Center for Transportation Studies and was leader of the national Intelligent Transportation Systems initiative.
