Two Tenure-Track Faculty Positions Open

The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering within the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus has two tenure-track faculty positions open.

Geomechanics

Tenure-Track Faculty Position
Deadline for applications is Nov 15, 2024 at 11:59 PM CDT

Description

The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering at the University of Minnesota seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of geomechanics focused on experimental methods; however, all areas of geomechanics will be considered, including but not limited to: fracture mechanics, constitutive characterization, drilling mechanics, chemo-hydro-mechanical aspects, imaging technologies, microseismic sensing, and reservoir characterization.

We are interested in applicants with strong core fundamentals in science and engineering that allow them to move easily across disciplinary boundaries and work collaboratively to solve challenging problems at the frontier of our discipline, such as mineral carbon storage, CO2 sequestration, enhanced geothermal systems, energy geotechnics, and extraterrestrial exploration.

Qualifications

Emphasis will be placed on the quality, creativity and intellectual distinction of the candidates’ research and scholarship. We are interested in scholars with strong core fundamentals in science and engineering that allow them to move easily across disciplinary boundaries and work collaboratively to solve complex problems at the frontier of their disciplines.

Successful candidates will be expected to maintain a strong externally-funded research program. Teaching responsibilities include existing undergraduate and graduate courses in geoengineering, as well as development of new courses in the candidate’s specialty areas. An earned doctorate is required at the time of the appointment. The position is intended for applicants at the Assistant Professor level but exceptional applicants at the Associate Professor or Professor level can be considered.

Mechanics and Physics of Materials

Tenure-Track Faculty Position

The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering (CEGE) at the University of Minnesota (UMN) is known for its pioneering work in analytical, computational, and experimental methods. We practice research excellence grounded in rigorous fundamentals for wide-ranging applications. Our research is interdisciplinary, covers a broad spectrum of areas, and emphasizes science and fundamentals. Our vision, inspired and innovative engineering for society, is directly related to our contributions stemming from basic research.

In many ways, civil engineers, environmental engineers, and geoengineers have provided the bedrock on which our modern society has flourished. Challenges, such as unprecedented consumption of resources, increased urbanization, and water scarcity, demand innovative solutions to support human well-being and provide for a resilient planet. Our mission in CEGE is to learn concepts and methods, discover solutions and processes, and transform the world by addressing critical challenges in designing and protecting the infrastructure, environment, water and earth resources.
