Professors Haynes and Carr recognized on 2023 Analytical Scientist Power List

MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL (12/14/2023) – Distinguished University Teaching Professor Peter Carr and Distinguished McKnight University Professor Christy Haynes have both been named on the 2023 Power List from the Analytical Scientist. The two were both recognized in the Mentors and Educators category. 2023 marks the 10th year of the Power List; Haynes has been recognized on the list a total of five times and Carr has been recognized twice.

Carr – who has been a member of the Department of Chemistry faculty for over 45 years – has been recognized multiple times for his excellence in teaching and mentorship across the course of his career. In addition to his previous appearance in the Mentor category on the Power List in 2017, Carr was named a Distinguished University Teaching Professor in 2002 for his outstanding contributions to graduate education and received the J. Calvin Giddings Award for Excellence in Education from the American Chemical Society in 2013.

Haynes was ranked #5 in the Mentors and Educators category on the 2023 Power List. In addition to this year’s list, Haynes was named on the Power List in 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019. She has been recognized in a variety of categories including the Top 100 (2019), Giants of Nano (2017), Top 50 most influential women (2016), and Top 40 under 40 (2014). In addition to her appearances on the Power List, Haynes was recognized as a Distinguished McKnight University Professor in 2019 and received an Advising and Mentoring Award from the UMN Graduate and Professional Student Assembly in 2015.

The Analytical Scientist – a trade journal that focuses on the people, technology and innovations shaping measurement science – is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. In honor of this occasion, the publication selected individuals for this year’s Power List based on their “excellence and impact over the past decade.
