Undergraduate Degrees
Accredited Programs
Each of our undergraduate degree programs is designed to prepare graduates to enter a rich field with a broad range of job opportunities:
- The Bachelor of Civil Engineering (BCE) degree program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Civil Engineering programs. Civil engineering majors study all subdisciplines of the field but can choose to emphasize in a particular area with their selection of technical electives. Ares include environmental engineering, geomechanics, structures, transportation, and water resources.
- The Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (BEnvE) degree program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Environmental Engineering programs. Environmental engineering majors study fluid mechanics, hydrology, the design of water and wastewater treatment systems, and solid and hazardous waste management.
- The Bachelor of Geoengineering (BGeoE) degree program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Geological Engineering programs. Geoengineering majors take courses in earth sciences and can focus in geofluids, georesources, or geoenvironmental engineering.
Students can also apply to our Integrated Bachelor's/Master's program to earn both degrees within five 5 years.
In addition to classroom studies, you can participate in extra-curricular social and professional activities that will help you gain valuable work and research exposure, and you can expand your experience by studying abroad.
Program Educational Objectives
The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering has the following program educational objectives for our graduates:
- practice technical proficiency and adaptability, and participate in life-long learning to meet the challenges facing professions in engineering industries, government agencies, academia, or other careers;
- exhibit strong communication, interpersonal, and management skills as leaders and team members in their profession; and
- exercise their role as ethical professionals that protect and sustain human health, welfare, and the environment.
Student Outcomes
Student outcomes describe what our students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. They prepare graduates of each of our programs to attain the Program Educational Objectives and relate to the skills, knowledge, and behaviors that the students acquire as they progress through the program. The student outcomes follow the accreditation requirements of ABET Criterion 3 (1-7) and are as follows:
- An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
- An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
- An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
- An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
- An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
- An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
- An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies
