A doctoral recruitment fellowship that aims to attract outstanding applicants to the College of Science and Engineering.
Provides a nine-month stipend of $26,500 (for 2022-23), full-time tuition at resident rates, and 12 months of health coverage.
Provides one-, two-, and three-year awards. Exceptional nominees are offered multi-year awards.
Applicants are nominated by the program during the admissions review process.

Helps graduate programs promote a diversity of views, experiences, and ideas in the pursuit of research, scholarship, and creative excellence.
Diversity is promoted through the recruitment and support of academically excellent students with diverse ethnic, racial, economic, and educational backgrounds and experiences as suggested in the review/selection consideration list.

The Graduate School annually offers fellowship competitions for early- to mid-career graduate students.
Awards are supported by endowed income from wills and trusts, or gifts from organizations or individuals. Fellowship terms vary based on the award.
Current graduate students can either apply for these awards directly or be nominated by the department.
Internal competitions, if available, are announced in early fall.

Rewards PhD candidates who have demonstrated a longstanding commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and/or social justice through scholarly activity and/or climate-enhancing initiatives. In addition, it provides financial support for those with insufficient funding as a consequence of COVID-19.
Offers PhD candidates an opportunity to devote full-time effort to finalize and write a dissertation during the fellowship year.

A unique opportunity for outstanding PhD students who are engaged in interdisciplinary research to study with faculty at one of the University’s interdisciplinary research centers or institutes during the fellowship year.
Applicants designate the host center or institute they believe is the best match with their planned dissertation topic, contingent upon endorsement by the host center or institute.
Provides a 9-month stipend of $25,000 (for 2022-23), full-time tuition at resident rates, and 12 months of health coverage.
Applicants apply to centers and institutes in October and receive nominations to continue to the University competition in early November.

Gives the University's most accomplished PhD candidates an opportunity to devote full-time effort to an outstanding research project by providing time to finalize and write a dissertation during the fellowship year.

Students who would like to be considered for nomination to this University-wide competition apply to the department in mid-January for the late-February nomination deadline.

Recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported STEM disciplines who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees at accredited U.S. institutions.
The five-year fellowship includes three years of financial support including an annual stipend of $34,000. The University of Minnesota provides NSF Fellows with full-time tuition for fall and spring semesters at resident rates, and 12 months of health coverage.
Applications open in late summer and are due in October.

Provides the tools to pursue a STEM education and begin your career in a prestigious civilian position with the Department of Defense.
Application window is August through December for an award in the following academic year.

Established in 1989 by direction of Congress to increase the number of U.S. citizens receiving doctoral degrees in science and engineering disciplines relevant to the Department of Defense.

Offers MS- and PhD-level students access to dozens of the nation's top engineering and science firms and universities.
Promotes opportunities for individuals to enter industry at the graduate level in areas such as research and development, product development, and other high-level technical careers. Also offers exposure to a number of opportunities in academia.
Applications are due in parts, with part one due October 1 and part two due in mid-November.
