Juan Lopez is a junior. He transferred from Normandale Community College in Bloomington, which is near his high school and where he was awarded two years of full tuition. This year Lopez received a scholarship through ACEC.

Keane Nowlan is a senior and will be graduating in May 2020. He grew up in the Twin Cities and worked alongside his father in his custom cabinetry business.

Emma O'Leary (BCE 2018) is a graduate student. She will be completing her Master’s of Science degree in May 2020. Having a father who is an environmental engineer, she was always aware of that as a career possibility.

In a recent interview, murphy shared how he came to this view and how it is woven into the culture at Meyer Borgman Johnson (MBJ), a structural design and engineering firm.

Katrina (Kat) Hetico (BGeoE, 2019) puts a priority on fun, so of course she would pursue geoengineering and women’s crew!
In addition to selecting a rigorous major in geoengineering, Kat Hetico is a Division 1 athlete competing on the UMN Women’s Crew Team.

Preparing a Global Workforce - Edwin Jarquin Martinez

In this issue we share perspectives of two students with global experience. Mariah Dooley, from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has travelled, studied, and worked in Spanish-speaking countries. Edwin Jarquin Martinez earned an architecture degree in his native Nicaragua. He came to the University of Minnesota to earn his second degree in civil engineering.
