Professor Ru-Yu Lai receives Taylor Career Development Award

MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL (3/8/2023) – Assistant Professor Ru-Yu Lai has been selected for the George Taylor Career Development Award. The award recognizes exceptional contributions to teaching by a candidate for tenure within the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota. The award amount of $20,000 supports the professional development in teaching and research of the recipient.

"It is gratifying to see the college recognize the excellent work of Professor Lai through the Taylor Award. I'm excited to see how Ru-Yu's career continues to impact this community and beyond for years to come. This award will serve as a springboard for those efforts," says Head of the School of Mathematics Benjamin Brubaker.

Prof. Lai has been a member of the UMN community since 2015. She first came to the School of Mathematics as a postdoctoral researcher after completing her Ph.D. under Professor Gunther Uhlmann at the University of Washington. Prof. Lai joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor in 2017. Her research interests are focused on inverse problems and partial differential equations.
