Bret Weiss Takes Action to Diversify CE

Bret Weiss (P.E., BCE 1987) realized that if his company, WSB, wanted to hire under-represented groups, it couldn’t rely on referrals from existing employees, nor count on technical school programs, which can be prohibitively expensive. They needed to recruit and introduce people to the field. After two years of planning, WSB launched a four-month, free-of-charge evening class in surveying and materials testing. It offers a stepping stone to high-demand jobs.

Alisha Radstake was chosen unamimously from among several highly deserving candidates. She is graduating with a major in Civil Engineering and a minor in Urban Studies.
