Carol Shield Recognized for Service and Leadership

Carol Shield, CSE Distinguished Professor, was recognized for her outstanding service to the concrete profession at the 69th Annual Concrete Conference, December 5, 2019, in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. Shield has devoted more than 20 years of service to the American Concrete Institute (ACI), in particular, through her work with ACI Committee 440 FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) Reinforcement. Shield served as chair from 2009-2015. During that time, she led a committee of more than 200 members, 60 voting members, and 11 subcommittees. Shield is currently working on the ACI 318 Structural Concrete Building Code equivalent for FRP.

It is our pleasure to introduce a special tribute edition of our CEGE magazine to honor two of our Emeriti Professors—Charles Fairhurst and Theodore Galambos—who both celebrated their 90th birthdays in 2019. This special edition collects tributes and anecdotes from some of their colleagues.
