Gulliver Honored with Hunter Rouse Award

Professor John Gulliver received the Hunter T. Rouse Hydraulic Engineering Award from the ASCE Environmental and Water Resources Institute. The award honors Gulliver’s long service to the field: bringing water quality into the field of hydraulic engineering, educating engineering students, authoring prominent textbooks and handbooks, and serving engineering practice.
Graduate Student Dan Kennedy Goes Deep

As a Civil Engineering graduate student, with a geomechanics focus, Dan Kennedy (BCE 2018, MS 2020) studies deep foundations necessary for tall, slender structures. He is advised by Bojan Guzina and Joseph Labuz. “I am extremely impressed with the CEGE program and have been since the first time I visited the building. It is apparent that everyone associated with CEGE is passionate about engineering.”

In a paper published in Nature, Boya Xiong teamed up with the Johnson Group in Chemistry at MIT to show that ultra strong thermoset plastics could be degraded under both natural seawater and sunlight conditions and industrial recycling schemes, allowing for reuse and improved environmental compatibility without compromising strength.

Anndee Huff Recognized for Research and Leadership

Anndee Huff, a Ph.D. student advised by Paige Novak, has received a Women in Leadership Scholarship and a Moos Graduate Research Fellowship. Huff and Novak are working on removing nitrogen from wastewater. They are targeting a microorganism that can remove nutrients more efficiently than traditional treatment processes can.
