December 15, 2020: Adolph Barclift (B.S. 2006) will be responsible for the development and delivery of a comprehensive information and cybersecurity for the bank.
December 15, 2020: Hui Xiong (Ph.D. 2005) received this honor from his AAAS peers for his “distinguished contributions to the fields of data mining and mobile computing.”
December 7, 2020: Alumna Xia Ning (Ph.D. 2012) was recognized with the prestigious 10-Year Highest-Impact award at the 2020 International Conference on Data Mining (ICDM) for her paper “SLIM: Sparse Linear Methods for Top-N Recommender Systems," originally published in 2011 with advisor George Karypis.
November 16, 2020: CS&E alumnus Terry Wang (B.S. 2013), co-founder and CTO of the IOST Foundation, was invited to speak on blockchain technology as a Communications Society Distinguished Lecturer by the IEEE Kansai chapter.
November 4, 2020: A U of M alumnus in mechanical engineering with a computer science minor, and VP & CTO at BigBasket, Rakshit Daga (M.S. '00), is interviewed.
September 17, 2020: Sezzle co-founders, including former computer science & engineering student Killian Brackey (2013-2107) have established the Sezzle Scholars program, which will fund a full, four-year scholarship to a deserving CSE undergraduate student interested in data science, computer science, or computer engineering.
August 27, 2020: Promontory MortgagePath has added Scott Turnquest as its new Chief Technology Officer. Turnquest received his M.S. in software engineering from the University of Minnesota and has more than 20 years of technology experience. He has held senior engineering leadership positions at Kindur, GitHub, and at Earnest. Turnquest also has placed a premium on volunteerism, having worked with Hackbright Academy and Black Girls CODE, two organizations whose mission is to increase female representation in technology.
August 2020: Pallavi Mitra (M.S. 2020) recently joined Sentera as a computer vision engineer. She successfully defended her thesis in June 2020. Her interests are in Computer Vision and Deep Learning with applications in Multi-View Geometry and Stereo Vision. Her thesis focused on enhancing monocular depth estimation using Generative Adversarial Networks.

July 13, 2020: Sabirat Rubya (Ph.D., 2020) is an incoming Assistant Professor in the department of Computer Science at Marquette University. Her research includes human-computer interaction, social computing, health informatics, and human-aided machine learning.
June 4, 2020: Alumnus in computer science, Raju Vatsavai, joins Lirio's Behavioral Reinforcement and Learning Lab (BReLL).
May 27, 2020: Former UMN computer science master student who is currently enrolled in UMN’s Senior Citizen Education Program, Ken Holdeman, plans to share what he has discovered about quantum entanglement so far with arXiv.
May 15, 2020: Alumna in computer science Linda Buan, previously Vice President, Product Develop and Operations at Provation, has been promoted to Chief Technology Officer.
March 16, 2020: "In epidemiology analysis, the relationship between people in space and time is very important," explains Bao Jie, head of the JD Group city data management platform and CS&E alumnus, “and human activity trajectories are a typical form of spatiotemporal data.”
March 3, 2020: Alumnus in computer science Dr. Ajay Bhushan Pandey (Ph.D. 2004) was designated as the new Finance Secretary to the Indian Government.
February 5, 2020: Eve Poeschl (B.S. 2003) was named to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal’s prestigious 40 Under 40 List, which recognizes the best young leaders for their professional success and commitment to the community. She currently works as the Director of Solutions Architecture for MentorMate.

January 21, 2020: Paula Overby is a psychology and computer science alumna at the University of Minnesota.
January 6, 2020: Johanna Lucht, a University of Minnesota computer science and engineering alumna, became the first deaf engineer to carry out an active role in a NASA control center.
October 30, 2019: Alumna Yan Huang (Ph.D. 2003) was named a distinguished member of the Association for Computing Machinery for her scientific contributions to the field of computing.
July 1, 2019: Ph.D. alumna Yan Huang (2003) has been selected to participate in the very selective Executive Leadership in Academic Technology, Engineering and Science (ELATES) program. ELATES is a professional development program specifically geared for women in academic STEM fields.
June 23, 2019: Patrap Toketar, who graduated with a Ph.D in Computer Science, will join the faculty at the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies
