Hi there! My name is Jackson Dempsey (he/him), and I’m a current senior in computer science. My interests primarily in software engineering, and the ability to solve problems at scale through programing.

One of my favorite parts of the computer science major are classes that help you figure out not just what we do in programming, but also why we do things in certain ways. I’ve always loved courses like CSCI 4041, which take an advanced view into many pivotal data structures and programming techniques.

I was previously a TA for multiple semesters of CSCI 1933, as well as its companion course CSCI 1935. Starting off the computer science program here, and later becoming a TA for its intro classes, it's easy to recognize that starting off this major can often be demanding in both your time and attention. That’s why I hope to help new computer science majors to get their footing, by working on things one step at a time. I believe that, often, when you take the time to ask questions about individual concepts you can’t quite grasp yet, you’ll be in a much better position to tackle more difficult concepts later on in the course.

In total, my hope for prospective students as a CSCI tutor is to build out their foundations so students can fully flourish in the major.
