Meet our advisors - Jacquelyn Burt

Jacquelyn (she/her/hers) has been here at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities since 2010, and is a HUGE fan of all things maroon and gold! With a B.S. in business marketing education, an M.Ed. in Education Leadership and Student Development, and a higher ed career that spans student advising, administration, global programs, and course development and instruction, Jacquelyn is deeply passionate about bringing energy, enthusiasm, and encouragement to all students. As an undergrad here at the U, she participated in the UMN marching band on the drumline, served as a TA in the leadership minor, studied abroad on multiple short-term experiences (South Africa, Senegal, and Germany!), conducted undergraduate research, and was heavily involved in the weightlifting club (pun intended!).

In 2021, Jacquelyn received the Gopher Spirit Award from the UMN Academic Advising Network; and in February 2024, she was named a recipient of the John Tate Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Advising. Her favorite thing about advising is helping facilitate connection, inclusion, and belonging for CS&E students within such a big campus, and she is a passionate advocate for all UMN students. In addition to advising, Jacquelyn co-created and co-teaches both CSCI 2915 and CSCI 2980, which are training seminar courses that offer CS&E TAs concrete skills and practice with leadership, communication, and inclusive teaching.

When she's not advising, you can find her cheering on the Gophers (in all sports!), running and hiking all over Minnesota with her rescued husky/Rottweiler mix, Maverick, banging around on her drum set, or lifting heavy things in the campus gym.

To meet with Jacquelyn, schedule an advising appointment onlineQuick or time-sensitive questions can always be sent to your assigned departmental advisor if you're in the major or email csciug@umn.edu if you are not admitted to our major programs. Our department will not be hosting drop-in advising hours.
