Heimdahl appointed to second term as CS&E department head

The University of Minnesota has reappointed Mats Heimdahl as the head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CS&E). This reappointment extends his leadership role through June 30, 2025. He will begin his second five-year term as department head on July 1, 2020.

“Professor Heimdahl has provided excellent service during his term as head to date, and I am confident that his continued leadership of the academic programs in CS&E will serve the department, the college and the University well in the years ahead,” said Mos Kaveh, dean of the College of Science and Engineering.

Heimdahl specializes in software engineering and safety critical systems. He served as the director of the University of Minnesota Software Engineering Center (UMSEC) for 11 years before being appointed department head in 2015. He has received the National Science Foundation’s CAREER award, a McKnight Land-Grant Professorship, the McKnight Presidential Fellow Award at the University of Minnesota, and the University of Minnesota Award for Outstanding Contributions to Post-Baccalaureate, Graduate, and Professional Education.
