Grad students Joon Kim and Tianci Song have been awarded the John T. Riedl Memorial Graduate Teaching Assistant Award for 2023. This award recognizes graduate teaching assistants whose efforts have helped other students succeed in the classroom. In addition to the recognition at the CS&E Graduate Student Graduation Celebration, each recipient will receive a $2,000 prize.

Kim and Song were selected for their dedication and service to the students in CSCI 5521: Machine Learning Fundamentals and CSCI 2021: Machine Architecture and Organization, respectively. Kim and Song both had multiple nominations, which all mentioned their extensive knowledge of the course topics and their availability to assist students (both during and outside of office hours).

Before his untimely passing away in 2013, Professor John T. Riedl, himself a devoted, exceptional teacher, asked that funds contributed by his friends and colleagues be used to establish this memorial award.
